Hoax was originally formed as a guild in the first Everquest MMO. Back in 2000, the founders of Hoax were fed up with the drama and headaches they had experienced in larger raiding guilds and decided to form a band of casual fun-loving players.

Three great years of online fun followed, but eventually, the monotonous grind of Everquest, coupled with the constant release of expansions drove many of the original Hoax members away from gaming.

In the months leading up to the full retail release of World of Warcraft, many Hoax members played the beta and the gaming fire was rekindled again. In November of 2004 Hoax officially said goodbye to Everquest and reformed as a Horde Guild on the Deathwing server where it currently plays.
